Mishawaka sendmail daemon for Win95/NT
This is a small unsupported program I wrote for my own
need. I release it to the public. May you find it useful.
My problem was twofold:
- Like any normal phobic person, I didn't like my
e-mail passing through another's intermediary.
- Recent anti-SPAM efforts (which I encourage) have left
me without a SMTP server to relay my e-mail.
I created Mishawaka (named after my childhood
home town in Indiana USA), because I could not find an e-mail
client which did direct delivery. This minimally-featured sendmail
daemon works with any e-mail client. It delivers
e-mail directly from your PC to the destination.
List of answers:
- Mishawaka is not an e-mail client (It does not let you read or write e-mail).
- Mishawaka only relays outbound e-mails from your PC.
- Here is information on Internet standards.
- Enter the address 127.0.0.1 as the "Outbound mail server" or
"SMTP server" of your e-mail clent. This is the loopback address and refers to your PC.
Mishawaka only accepts mail from this address as a security precaution.
- Mishawaka does not have an installer. It is only one file.
- Mishawaka is freeware.
- For a copy of Mishawaka's source code (written in C) send to
2311 N Greenview Ave. Chicago, IL 60614:
- a $15 US check or money order.
- a return e-mail address.
- The only data Mishawaka sends off your computer is the e-mail
you specify to the receipients you specify. It does not do any
"online registration". It does not advertise.
- If you send letters with very large receipient lists, then
Mishawaka is not the most efficient way.
- Mishawaka is not recommended for really crappy internet connections.
